Smirk 48x64, oil on linen, 2009 via alyssamonks.com |
This Friday's artist is one I discovered a few years ago but her work still astounds me. New York-based artist, Alyssa Monks explores the relationship between realism and the abstract. Her figures are photo-realistic while the filters, often water and steam, distort parts of the human figure into abstraction.
Definitely check out her other work here. The opening page is her in her studio, I can't imagine working on a canvas that large! Maybe a summer challenge for myself?
